So let me get this straight: After months of the drama that is the public life of Elizabeth Halverson playing out painfully before our eyes, the Judicial Discipline Commission decided last week to wait until Aug. 4 to hold a hearing on her future. This after numerous to-and-fros and a recent assertion by the judge that she shouldn’t even have to run because the Legislature unconstitutionally set her term to expire this year. This is as hard to believe as some of the bizarre allegations of her behavior on the bench. But get this: Aug. 4 is less than two weeks before the primary election. So if the commission doesn’t act that day and takes some time to render a decision, voters could well go to the polls before they know the resolution. How can that be?
