Looking in on: Entertainment:

For a cause, Oscar night glitz will be copied in Las Vegas

Las Vegans can celebrate Oscar night at Planet Hollywood and help the Arthritis Foundation of Southern Nevada at the same time.

The foundation is sponsoring a gala dinner, silent auction and TV watching party, the only one in Las Vegas sanctioned by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. Festivities begin at 4 p.m. Sunday with a cocktail reception and the auction. Dinner will be served during the Academy Awards broadcast, which begins at 5 p.m.

Siegfried & Roy are honorary chairmen of this year’s event.

Community philanthropist Cindy Doumani will receive the Arthritis Foundation’s 2008 commitment to community award. The former entertainer serves on the boards of many charitable organizations, including the Liberace Foundation, Opportunity Village, the American Heart Association, Nevada Arts Advocates, the Susan G. Koman Foundation, Golden Rainbow and the Arthritis Foundation.

Cathy Ray, a KTNV Channel 13 anchor and health reporter, will be honored with the community health award.

John Daly and Nina Radetich will serve as masters of ceremonies. Host committee members include Jaki Baskow, Lynette Chappel, Jimmy Foster, Mike Mecca, Rossi Ralenkotter, Randy Soard, Lucy Stewart and Mark Wayman.
