Man critically injured in two-vehicle collision

A Las Vegas man is hospitalized in critical condition today after authorities say his vehicle failed to stop at a red light and collided with another vehicle in an intersection.

The crash occurred at 4:28 a.m. today at the intersection of Desert Inn Road and Town Center Drive in the southwest valley.

Metro Police said a 1997 Honda CR-V driven by Samuel Braun, 29, was westbound on Desert Inn and entered the intersection at Town Center on a red light. Witnesses told police they never saw brake lights as the Honda entered the intersection, colliding with a northbound 2001 Toyota Tacoma that had a green light.

The front of the Toyota struck the left side of the Honda, causing the Honda to hit a concrete block wall, authorities said.

Braun was taken to University Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition this morning. The driver of the Toyota, Paul Brendin, 49, of Las Vegas, was treated at UMC for minor injuries and released from the hospital.

Metro Police said the crash remains under investigation.
