Letter: Let’s look at viable alternative to coal
Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2007 | 7:36 a.m.
The environmentalists want to try to force the use of unproven technology to eliminate the carbon dioxide emissions from proposed power plants ("Gibbons stokes coal-fired plants," Sept. 11 ).
But the only way to economically produce large amounts of power without greenhouse gases is to build nuclear plants.
Blind belief in new technology solving all our problems will not make them go away. The only choices here are building nuclear plants, doing without the power or accepting the added pollution and its effects on our climate.
