Letter: Republicans all talk when it comes to terror
Sunday, Sept. 9, 2007 | 1:22 a.m.
The Republican Party has established itself as being the toughest on terrorism and the strongest on national defense, and the general public has pretty much accepted that view. I am confused as to why this is the case.
Whose watch was it on when 9/11 took place? Whose watch was it on and which party poorly planned and executed an ill-conceived war in Iraq? Whose watch has it been on that has stretched our military so thin that we would find it difficult to defend ourselves anywhere else in the world?
Under whose watch has Iraq become a country overcome with terrorist violence? Under whose watch has al-Qaida established itself in Iraq and have, according to most reports, become as strong as they were pre-9/11?
Under whose watch was it that said we will get bin Laden "dead or alive?" If we get him "dead" it will only be because he died of old age.
If the Republican Party is truly the party that is toughest on terrorism and strongest on national defense, we are in deep "doo-doo."
