Letter: Kids today need tougher discipline

The entire country seems to be in disarray, especially our youth and our schools, and this is where it starts.

For all of you bleeding hearts and those who think the following is primitive, well, I'll bet you have or know someone who has been affected by the situation today in our schools. What am I talking about? Corporal punishment.

Bring back the paddle, from the fifth grade on! After awhile you won't need metal detectors. Why will this work?

Back in the '60s when I went to school, children would respect and behave - or else. Oh yeah, there were and always will be a certain percentage of kids in trouble, no matter what is done. That trouble group will lurk and they will drop out. I'll bet it was around 2 to 3 percent then. Today? You tell me!
