FLASHPOINT for Oct 18, 2007

Thursday, Oct. 18, 2007 | 7:17 a.m.

You may have heard that Chancellor Jim Rogers recently declared that Nevadans are "horribly and fatally undereducated." He's also lambasted the possibility of $64 million in higher ed budget cuts being contemplated in the capital. How bad is the state of the system? On "Face to Face" this week, I asked Rogers: "If you had a kid coming out of high school, your own child coming out of high school, would you send him to the universities in this state?" The chancellor looked almost stunned, then paused, then said: "I would certainly give it very serious thought. I would. It's a tough question. It's a tough question." Now that is something, folks. The system's highest-ranking official might not send his kids to college here. Enough said.
