Letter: Immigration raids were long overdue
Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007 | 1:30 a.m.
The immigration raids should be continued not only at McDonald's in Reno, but at all fast-food restaurants in the entire state of Nevada.
Why do employers like McDonald's allegedly hire illegal aliens in the first place?
If McDonald's was hit with a stiff, hefty fine - rather than a slap on the wrist or a warning - it would go far to have them comply with the law. It wasn't too many years ago that most of the employees in these fast-food restaurants were legal high school students wanting to make extra money, or it was their first job, or it was senior citizens making extra money.
Are greedy corporations saving that much money by hiring illegals?
It's about time that Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the federal government are finally doing these raids. It isn't that hard for an employer to hire legal immigrants and citizens of this country. ICE also should concentrate on the casinos and other food-service establishments, because that is the only way these places are going to learn to hire legal immigrants and citizens.
When illegals have no jobs to go to here in the United States then they will, in all likelihood, return to their own country and force their government to give them all the freebies they enjoyed here in this country. They should march and fight in their own country to make it better rather than taking and demanding health, welfare, education and freebies from our citizens, many of whom are in need themselves.
