Highlights of "The $250,000 Game Show Spectacular":
No question about it, game shows have become big business in the gaming capital of the world.
Following the trail blazed 18 months ago by the "The Price is Right - Live," Bally's stage version of the popular television show, is "The $250,000 Game Show Spectacular," premiering tonight at the Las Vegas Hilton.
While "Price" has one host, Todd Newton, "Spectacular" is bringing three to rotate the duties through the week.
The names are immediately recognizable to game show af icionados - Bob Eubanks (host of "The Newlywed Game" from 1966 to 2000), Chuck Woolery (original host of "Wheel of Fortune," and host of "Love Connection" from 1983 to 1994 and now hosting "Lingo" on the GSN) and Jamie Farr.
Jamie Farr? The cross-dressing Cpl. Klinger from "M*A*S*H" isn't known so much as a host, but as a veteran contestant on game shows.
"I would work five days a week on 'M*A*S*H' and then on weekends - Saturdays and Sundays - I would do five game shows on each day," Farr said. "I was working seven days a week."
Eubanks is the driving force behind "Spectacular," recruiting Woolery and Farr to share duties with him in Las Vegas.
He's been traveling the country the past couple of years hosting a similar game show at Indian casinos and other venues - 40 dates a year.
Eubanks didn't want to reveal too much about the game, which he says is a "compilation of almost every game show you've ever seen." It lasts 75 minutes and draws from eight other games, including card, music and board games. At the end of the show 10 contestants are brought on stage to compete for the chance to win $250,000.
