Letter: Weekly’s spending deserves a ‘Nice work!’
Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2007 | 7:18 a.m.
The Las Vegas Sun, in a Tuesday editorial, points a finger at Clark County Commissioner Lawrence Weekly for spending $22,000 in discretionary funding, but had the members of the editorial board been at the Halloween party at the Walnut Recreation Center, where hundreds of kids had the time of their lives, they might have said: "Nice work!" Hundreds of kids received candy, prizes and food.
Then, on Nov. 16, the commissioner himself - no fanfare, no name tag and no photographers - was in a parking lot handing out turkeys for much-needed Thanksgiving fare. I took a family to collect one of those turkeys, and if not for Commissioner Weekly they would not have had a holiday meal. I hope he continues spending.
