Letter: Politics has taken over Supreme Court

Wednesday, May 30, 2007 | 7:20 a.m.

I remember the year as if it were yesterday - 1942. I was a senior in high school, and World War II had just begun. Our high school class trip took us to Washington, D.C.

Even though the Supreme Court was not in session, we were permitted to visit its chambers, and I still, to this day, remember this awe-inspiring experience.

After leaving the building, I was convinced that whatever judgments were delivered in those hallowed halls were done so with honesty, intelligence and fairness without political bias.

Fast forward the years to our current sitting justices, the majority of whom have been chosen primarily for their acceptances of political party theorems. This modus operandi does not serve the best interests of all since it furthers the cause of division among us.
