John Katsilometes reports on a unique wedding ceremony for a similarly unique couple in the downtown arts district

A romance that blossomed out of Dino's Lounge (which claims to be Las Vegas' last neighborhood bar) culminated in matrimony Saturday afternoon as Cindy Funkhouser and Rick Dominguez exchanged vows at the Fallout, the couple's new gallery in the downtown arts district.

Funkhouser owns the antique and crafts store the Funk House, serves as the president of the nonprofit arts organization Whirlygig and is founder of the weekly art walk/crafts fair/street party First Friday. Dominguez operates his own flooring company, the aptly titled Fabulous Floors of Las Vegas. The two met at Dino's, which sits across from Olympic Garden on Las Vegas Boulevard South, on Valentine's Day 2006. In July, again at Dino's, during "Karaoke Night with Danny G" and with the Bee Gees classic "Words" droning in the background, Dominguez brought forth a sheet cake with a proposal scrawled across the frosting. She accepted, and on Saturday exchanged vows in front of about 60 friends and family.

The officiant, a friend of the couple's and former municipal court judge, Dayvid Figler, set the tone by saying, "When Rick and Cindy asked me to do this and offered 10 percent off a green ottoman, slightly used, I could not refuse." The bride was clad in a classy pant suit. Dominguez opted for an aesthetically stunning vintage early-1970s beige tuxedo trimmed in dark tan, with ruffles and tan slacks (an ensemble he found at the Attic that cost $100). He opted for yellow Converse Chuck Taylor sneakers.

The happy couple are honeymooning in beautiful downtown Las Vegas.

All that activity at the Stirling Club at Turnberry Place on Friday night was because New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, a candidate for the Democratic Party's presidential nomination, was in the house and holding meetings of a power nature. ...

During her performance Saturday at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace, Stevie Nicks introduced her mother, Barbara Nicks, who at age 79 doesn't make too many of her daughter's gigs but did enjoy a rare night out in Vegas. The show was Nicks' final performance in a weeklong run at Caesars, and she can still bring the heat at age 58. Her jarring encore rendition of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll" was a highlight. ...

Take these broken wings ...: The one segment that has made me grimace in "Love" at the Mirage is the "Blackbird" scene, the stupid slapstick comedy interlude that is all spoken-word and no music. The scene's original centerpiece (who played Dr. Robert in the production), Fabio Esposito De Castro, left the show in November to be with his family in Brazil. He has since been replaced with another Brazilian performer, Claudio Carniero, who is a lot less heavy-handed, and, thus, funnier in that scene. The segment has also been shortened, and the moment where one of the costumed blackbird characters poops on Dr. Robert's face has been mercifully removed. ...

More hijinks from Cirque: Empire Ballroom comic hypnotist Michael Johns, who fronts "Hypnosis Gone Wild" nightly at 11, was in the audience Saturday night at "O" at the Bellagio and found himself in a bit of role reversal. As the show opened, the dancing clown character (insert your own Bush Administration joke here) pulled Johns onstage and coerced him into dancing for the audience. "It wouldn't have been so bad if it had been a showgirl," said Johns, whose show is built on such audience participation. ...

Something to look at in the design plans: During Friday night's Saks Fifth Avenue/Las Vegas Philharmonic gala at the Venetian, outgoing LV Phil Music Director Hal Weller said the Smith Center for Performing Arts plans for its orchestra pit might be lacking in scope. Weller said the plans he has seen has space for a 65-piece orchestra where it should have room for 100 to allow for full-scale opera productions. ...

Vegas moment: The ever-entertaining marquee at Beano's Casinoon West Lake Mead Boulevard reads, "Thank You Rebels" at the top and "Smoker Friendly" at the bottom. ...

You can likely guess the color and make of the car with the vanity plate BLUSAAB.
