Letter: Congressmen should explain their votes

The phrase "Don't do as I do, do as I say" has been around a long time. Thinking about this phrase brought to mind the Employee Free Choice Act passed by the House a few months ago on a vote of 241-185. Actually this proposal would take away a worker's right of freedom of choice of vote because the secret ballot right would no longer be there to protect him from coercion from union members.

Here's where the hypocrisy comes in. Some time ago House Democrats wrote a letter to Mexican labor officials, urging them to use the secret ballot in all union recognition elections. Eleven of the co-signers, still in office, all voted to deny American workers secret ballot elections. Will these congressm en please explain this double standard?

Fortunately, the Senate on Tuesday was not swayed by union lobbyists on this asinine legislation, which lost on a procedural vote.

By the way, where was the ACLU on this issue? If this had become law, wouldn't this have infringed on an individual's right to privacy , which I think the ACLU staunchly supports ?
