Anyone who doesn't think Jim Gibbons has a sense of humor needs to read a missive he sent out Friday. It reads, in part: " I made it very clear that I would not accept any new or increased taxes. This was more than a campaign slogan; it was a promise to the citizens of Nevada. It was a promise the Legislature understood and respected." So lawmakers understood and respected that promise? Which legislators? The ones who privately railed about how the pledge had constrained their ability to fund roads? They could neither fathom how Gibbons could adhere to such a promise they saw only as a campaign slogan nor could they have any regard for him when he made them look like taxers and spenders. A comic genius, our governor is.
