Letter: Country moving toward aristocracy
Sunday, June 3, 2007 | 7:12 a.m.
Letter writer Victor Lyons expressed frustration and disgust in his May 29 letter regarding the treatment of veterans. In the same issue, a Sun editorial, "Diplomas with debt," decried university foundations that don't use enough funds for students.
Hasn't anyone noticed that since Ronald Reagan's advent, capitalist America has been blatantly skewing wealth and power toward aristocracy? We're not there yet, but, oh, so close. To clinch it, our populace simply needs to continue voting the way it's been voting for a few decades.
Money trumps intelligence and hard work in the college world. I know from painful experience. But, for a real treat, try being a mother and teacher. Both, along with average military workers, are part of the developing servant class. Stay-at-home mothers live one step above slavery, below even teachers.
How about "mothers' benefits" for their service to society? Education according to academic ability instead of money? Mothers' benefits? Fair teacher pay? Veterans' support? People without money don't matter. Veterans, welcome to the worthless class.
