Letter: America’s last wars were profit-driven

There sure was a lot of talk about freedom on July 4 and about our veterans who have sacrificed their lives for that freedom. I have to wonder whether the people who promote this idea have ever been out of the country and seen that people in many countries are freer than we are - we live in a virtual police state in comparison.

I also have to wonder what war the lauded veterans fought in that actually preserved our "freedom." Every war in my lifetime after World War II has been about our economic interests abroad, not freedom. Our leaders sent our boys to die for the wealth of U.S. corporations, not our freedom, although they told us it was about freedom.

Are we really so eager to justify our own foolishness?
