Letter: Attack supply lines to stop violence in Iraq
Sunday, Jan. 21, 2007 | 7:22 a.m.
The cry is out for what plan the Democrats have? Well, here's one that should have been in place years ago and it's not too late now. Blockade Iraq.
That's right, seal the borders so supplies from elsewhere such as Syria and Iran and Saudi Arabia and others can't get in. No guns, no bombs and within a month or even less the insurgents will run out of their roadside bombs and their makeshift weapons and their rifles and machine guns.
Too simple? Think about it. Supply lines are the first thing to be attacked in war. Generals Patton and Montgomery and even Rommel knew that you can't sustain without supplies. Use the U.S. troops now there to block the entrances. Use the ships to block access by sea. Use air power to make sure there's no break in the blockade.
C'mon, I'm not a military man, although I was in the service for two years a while back and guess what, I was in the Quartermaster - yep, where supplies are coordinated.
There's your plan and hopefully Gen. David Petraeus, the new commander of the U.S. and coalition forces in Iraq, will carry that one out!
