LOOKING IN ON: ENTERTAINMENT

Call it a Pearl jam. The new Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms should have no problem filling the 2,500 seats with young fans, based on the talent it's lining up for its debut month.

Among the headliners:

Their performances have been described as "dark" and "theatrically charged anthems."

Plaid adieu

Unlike the long advance notice by "Mamma Mia!" (late summer 2008) and Celine Dion (Dec. 15), the producers of "Forever Plaid" gave fans only a few weeks' notice of its closing.

After a brief hiatus following its holiday show "Plaid Tidings," the nostalgic musical returned this week for a departing engagement that will end April 1.

The production had a good run while it lasted - six years at the Flamingo, two at the Gold Coast, more than 4,500 performances in all. Not bad for a cleverly written, inexpensive show that is suitable for all ages.

Rickles moves downtown

Still no word about the implosion date of the Stardust, where the sharp-tongued Don Rickles has performed for the past few years.

But Rickles, a Las Vegas mainstay for almost 50 years, has announced he's moving his headlining gig to the Golden Nugget on March 22-24.

His people say the first time he played the Nugget was almost 20 years ago to the day from the March dates. He performed there for six years. Steve Wynn, who owned the property then, was just beginning to create a Las Vegas dynasty.

Rickles returns to the Golden Nugget on May 25-27 and Oct. 5-7.

Wedding crashers

Taking a hint from the movie "The Wedding Crashers," a local wedding chapel is allowing strangers to crash a wedding once a month. For a price.

The first "Wedding Crashers Night" takes place at 7 p.m. Friday at the Little Chapel of the Flowers, north of the Stratosphere. Wedding fans(?) pay $15 to witness the ceremony and join the celebration, which includes a buffet dinner, sparkling cider, entertainment and dancing.

You don't have to bring a gift.

For reservations, call 735-4331.

Around town

Liza Minnelli will be celebrating her 60th birthday with performances March 29-31 at the Luxor, a follow-up to her two highly successful weekends at the venue in October and November ... Liberace tribute artist Wes Winters (1 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at the Liberace Museum) is expanding his repertoire. He's his own man from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Sunset Station's Club Madrid. His show's a tribute to the days of the Vegas lounges, when you could have dinner and dance or just watch the show and listen to the music ... Adrian Soler recently joined the cast of the "World's Greatest Magic Show" at the Greek Isle. Soler is noted for covering all the magical bases: close-up, parlour and stage illusions ... Legendary rocker Bob Seger brings his Silver Bullet Band to the MGM Grand Garden Arena on March 3. This is Seger's first concert tour since 1996. He's promoting his latest album, "Face the Promise," which debuted Sept. 12 at No. 4 on the Billboard 200 album chart and recently was certified as his 11th platinum album.
