Much has been written about attempts in Clark County to curtail garbage pickups to one a week to make way for a weekly recycling pickup instead of the current fortnightly.
This proposed reshuffle is flawed mainly because not enough of us recycle to warrant more pickups. We must start a campaign to enlist more residents to recycle before we can weigh whether the increase in the recycling pickup cycle warrants smelly garbage .
Any change in the schedule without a larger resident recycling participation is only giving Republic Services' business a break at the expense of taxpayers , who have to suffer by holding our garbage for a whole week, double the present timetable.
