'FANTASY' ANNIVERSARY

BRONSON AT BOULDER

By all accounts trumpeter Lon Bronson his band gave a memorable performance last weekend at Arizona Charlie's Decatur, playing their signature blend of horn-driven funk, soul, rock and R&B. FOLLOW THIS BAND

Don't freak out, Yellow Brick Road regulars. When Bronson plays the Railhead, Yellow Brick Road abandons its regular Friday gig and moves across town for a special gig at the Hilton. Details: 8 p.m. Aug. 31, $19.95-$39.95, 732-5755

BUBBLEGUM COMING

Ron Dante, who produced Barry Manilow's early recordings, is bringing the Bubblegum Bonanza to the Cannery. Dante reprises the Archies, and the show also will feature the Ohio Express, the 1910 Fruitgum Company, Andrew Gold and Bo Donaldson & The Heywoods. Special guest: Trini Lopez. WARD RETURNING TO THE PLAZA

Jazz violinist Michael Ward was such a hit at the Plaza last month that the venue is bringing him back for an encore performance. Also on the bill: Alyson Williams and Paris Red. Details: 8 p.m. Sept. 15; 386-2110

Trent Carlini is ready to add another crown as The King. Carlini, who stars in "The Musical History of the King" at the Sahara, recently was crowned best tribute artist in ABC's "The Next Best Thing."

He's one of the 10 finalists in the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest in Memphis, Tenn. It's part of Elvis Week, which celebrates Elvis Presley's life and mourns his death on Aug. 16, 1977. The winner will be named today.

Carlini doesn't have the only Las Vegas connection among the finalists. The top 10 includes Donny Edwards, who performed at the Elvis-A-Rama museum before it closed more than a year ago, and Brandon Bennett, who lives in Louisiana but often performs in Las Vegas. He performed at the Stardust before it was imploded and sometimes performs at Sam's Town, among other places.

Going country

Stoney's Rockin' Country, a 20,000-square-foot honky tonk, opens its doors to the public tonight.

Kicking off the grand opening will be Michael Austin and the Thunder Road Band, who were nominated for the Southern California Music Awards and Orange County Music Awards this year.

Owner Stoney Gray promises lots of national acts in the weeks ahead, including Rockie Lynne on Aug. 31.

The club includes an elevated 2,500-square-foot dance floor, a mechanical bull, pool tables and three 44-foot minibowling lanes.

Clint Holmes

Taking a break from working on his musical "Just Another Man," Las Vegas showman Clint Holmes will perform a limited engagement at the Excalibur.

Holmes will perform classic favorites and new songs from his Broadway-bound musical. The format gives fans a chance to see a new side of Holmes.

Stone soul

The Original Family Stone - sans Sly - will perform this weekend at The Cannery.

The Cannery concert will feature four of the original band members: lead guitarist and vocalist Freddie Stone (Sly's brother), lead vocalist Rose Stone (sister), Jerry Martini on tenor sax and Cynthia Robinson on trumpet. They will perform such classics as "Everyday People," "Dance to the Music" and "Hot Fun in the Summertime."

Sly last appeared with the Family Stone on April 21 in Las Vegas, performing at George Wallace's comedy show at the Flamingo.
