THE ELEVATOR

Who's going to the penthouse in local and regional sports - and who's getting the shaft:
GOING UP
Las Vegas Bowl on Saturday: After being played on Thursday for the past three years, our postseason college football game will move to the Saturday before Christmas (Dec. 22) this year. That might help attendance if BYU doesn't make it back. Or make it even harder to get a ticket if the Cougars do return.
Las Vegas Wranglers on any day of the week: Eighteen consecutive victories. Although the puck stopped there, our ECHL franchise may be the greatest thing on ice since Tanqueray and tonic.
51s starting time: Our Triple-A baseball team is starting home night games at 7:11 this year, which should make game time easy to remember. But in fairness to the other major convenience store in town, the 51s should schedule an 11 a.m. doubleheader on the next home stand and call it AM-PM.
Marathon men and women: According to the official Web site, 34 men and women who live in Southern Nevada completed last week's Boston Marathon. The top local finisher was 37-year-old Stephen G. Moran, a transplanted Irishman who finished 385th overall. Or, as a point of reference, a few spots ahead of the arena football Gladiators.
GOING DOWN
Las Vegas football: Over the past two seasons, UNLV (outdoors) and the Gladiators (indoors) have a combined 10-37 record. That's enough to make your pigskin crawl.
2,700 concrete barriers: Disassembly of the 2.44-mile downtown Vegas Grand Prix circuit was finished on April 14, a full week ahead of schedule. Now the cab drivers will have to find something else to complain about.
