Letter: Banning gun ownership is not the answer
Wednesday, April 25, 2007 | 7:08 a.m.
In answer to Janice Keil's April 18 letter, "Gun control should be key campaign issue":
Anytime there is an event such as the horrible tragedy at Virginia Tech, there will be many who are willing to jump on the bandwagon to outlaw private ownership of guns. Ms. Keil is just one of many who will be proclaiming that outrage.
To blame private ownership of guns for the act of demented people is ludicrous. Believe me, I'm not downplaying the tragedy or its effects. I'm saying that although this tragedy was caused by guns in the hands of a deranged person is not cause to outlaw guns. It has been said, and it is true: When guns are outlawed, only outlaws will have them .
Ms. Keil writes, "I won't vote for a presidential candidate who does not have an idea for more gun control." And, my answer to that is, to each his own, but I will never vote for a candidate who wants to take my guns from me.
On another vein, there are people who are beginning to chastise the Korean community for the actions of Seung-Hui Cho. I hope they will come to their senses and realize that to castigate and condemn Koreans for the actions of that demented man is unconscionable.
