Letter: Easy way out of Iraq might be on the horizon
Sunday, Sept. 17, 2006 | 7:24 a.m.
I find it rather ironic that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al-Maliki had a meeting on Sept. 12 to improve their strong ties to include new oil cooperation and establish complete security in Iraq. Al-Maliki said his visit is a turning point in the expansion of relations between Iran and Iraq.
Meanwhile in Washington, President Bush must be shaking in his Texas boots because just recently the Iranian president asked for televised discussions about Iranian policy in the Middle East. Of course the Bush administration immediately refused any contact with a country declared evil and said this is a delaying tactic in Iran's nuclear ambition to develop weapons of mass destruction.
What's next? I predict it is just a matter of time before Iraqi Prime Minister Al-Maliki will ask President Bush to remove all American troops from his country. If and when this happens the window of opportunity will provide an honorable withdrawal from Iraq and finally bring this deadly mistake to an end.
