Letter: Occupying Iraq does not make us safer at home

In David B. Wilson's Oct. 27 letter, "Rather fight terror in Iraq than at home," he asks us to "think about" some questions regarding the connection between Iraq and terrorism. Presumably, we will come to a positive conclusion.

But, on reflection, another couple of questions present themselves: Is Osama bin Laden, who is not in Iraq, but in the territory of our supposed ally Pakistan, unable to spare another 19 or so Saudis and Egyptians to do a horrific deed any time he wants?

And is every single Saudi, Egyptian, Iraqi, Pakistani, Afghan, Syrian, Lebanese, Indian, Indonesian, Palestinian, European, American, etc., Islamic jihadist busy being killed by us in Iraq? I think the answers are obvious.

Linking the fight against these religious extremists and Bush's war in Iraq by arguing with unsupported premises and drawing wrong conclusions might appeal emotionally, but it will in no way aid the real war against terrorism and will not make us one bit safer.
