Letter: Rather fight terror in Iraq than at home
Friday, Oct. 27, 2006 | 7:37 a.m.
We are deluged with all the bad things about events in Iraq and there is a constant drumbeat proclaiming that the war in Iraq and the war on terror are not related. Here are some things to think about:
1) If the war in Iraq and the war on terror are not related, why are the terrorists flocking into Iraq?
2) The flocking of terrorists into Iraq is not such a bad thing. If they are not successful in blowing themselves up in suicide bombings, they will likely be killed in confrontations with the coalition forces. So, it is reasonable to expect that when a terrorist decides to enter Iraq he will likely become a dead terrorist.
3) If these terrorists do not go to Iraq, where would they be and what would they be doing? Most likely they would be involved in planning and maybe even participating in attacks on the USA or its holdings.
Is it better to eliminate these terrorists in Iraq or leave Iraq and hope we catch up with them somewhere else before they score direct hits on the USA? I think the answer is obvious.
