Letter: Situation in Iraq worse than advertised

Ken Lucas' Nov. 15 letter to the editor, "Iraq situation not as grim as advertised," stuns me. The statistics that he cites pale in comparison to those one finds on a Web site of war casualties, http://icasualties.org/oif/. As of Wednesday morning that site had listed 3,109 Coalition dead, including 2,859 in the U.S. military, and add to that the 46,137 nonfatal casualties. Most estimates of the Iraqi civilian casualties exceed 100,000.

They say that pictures are worth a thousand words. I can still see President George W. Bush saying to the cameras, "Bring 'em on." He got his wish, but at what expense?

The toll continues to mount on a daily basis. One wonders if it will ever end. Yes, the situation is probably worse than depicted in the mainstream media and getting worse daily. Wishing and dreaming that it is better does not make it so.
