Letter: More than two options for Iraq
Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2006 | 7:21 a.m.
How many times must we hear the stupid arguments for the war in Iraq from the supporters of the Bush administration? When we were kids, our parents gave us stupid arguments like, "Because I said so," and "Don't make faces or your face will stay that way." By the time we were about 7 years old, we recognized them as arguments with no merit.
For the past several years, we have been told our choices in Iraq were to "stay the course" or to "cut and run." How stupid is that? Even a 7-year-old would know that there must be many other options, all of them better than the first two.
And how about the stupidity in, "Would you rather fight the terrorists over there or over here?" Again, why would anyone believe that those are our only two choices? The truth is that this administration has made too many errors resulting from shortsightedness and has covered them up with weak arguments. Alas, Americans are now accepting the woes of the lack of strong leadership as par for the course.
The next time someone asks you if America should "stay the course" or "cut and run," tell them, "none of the above." That will shut them up.
