FLASHPOINT for May 19, 2006
Friday, May 19, 2006 | 7:24 a.m.
So a candidate for governor has agreed to abandon his move to place before voters a proposition to limit government's ability to tax and spend. It is his signature issue but he has promised to urge the committee collecting signatures to qualify the initiative to cease and desist. Seems a lot of Republicans in the state believe that it would qualify for the November ballot, but that schools and social service providers would organize in the general election. And if that happens, GOP contenders would be in trouble. So state Sen. Bob Beers is giving up on TASC? No, he's not. The state is Ohio and the candidate is one Kenneth Blackwell, the secretary of state. The shape of things to come here? Doubtful.
