Letter: Romney would bring unity to government

The May 13 column in the Sun by E.J. Dionne illustrated a great example of what unity can create.

From what I know at this point in time, my vote for president in the 2008 election will go to Mitt Romney, the present governor of Massachusetts.

Mr. Romney was able to unite his Republican governorship with the Democratic-dominated state Legislature to pass a health care program for all the people of Massachusetts. This accomplishment is almost unheard of in today's political arena.

When running for president, Mr. Romney should make unity one of his platform's planks and stress his ability to unite the parties. Bipartisan politics, which is sorely needed, has been lacking since the days of former President Clinton's impeachment. This is not to say diversity has not permeated into the current President Bush's tenure.

As a spokesman of the past once said, "United we stand, divided we fall."
