Isaacson, a pioneer in shaping Nevada’s opticians laws, dies at 92

Victor Isaacson, a founding member of the Nevada Board of Dispensing Opticians, died April 20 in Duluth, Minn. He was 92.

Isaacson was a partner in Nevada Optical Co., starting in 1948 when he joined the business with his late brother Frank, and ending when he retired in 1980.

On Aug. 27, 1951, Isaacson became Gov. Charles Russell's lone Las Vegas selection to the newly formed Dispensing Opticians board. He served on the board for 28 years and helped shape early policy in Nevada for how prescription eyeglasses are fitted and distributed to patients.

Isaacson was chairman of the opticians guild when it held its national convention at the Riviera in May 1958. He also was a two-term member of the board of the Opticians Association of America.

A memorial service was held in Duluth, where Isaacson moved in 2000.

Donations can be made to the Children's Hospital Transportation Fund, Zelzah Shrine Temple, 2222 W. Mesquite Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89106.
