Letter: Governor should not put business first
Tuesday, June 20, 2006 | 2:25 a.m.
So the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce has endorsed Congressman Jim Gibbons for governor. They say, among other comments, that he has a "combination of experience and pro-business values" and "has demonstrated his willingness to listen to the needs and concerns of business."
Now isn't that just dandy. Just what we need. In a state dominated by the casino industry and other businesses, a governor who will stay up nights worrying about their welfare.
Heaven help the schoolchildren, seniors, the poor, sick and handicapped if he has to choose between them and business interests. I don't know about you, but I'm sick of politicians whose first goal is to is protect thriving businesses and individuals. I don't care about party interests here.
Whether it's Republican Lt. Governor Lorraine Hunt or the two Democrats - Sen. Dina Titus or Henderson Mayor Jim Gibson - let's put a person in the governor's office whose first concern will be for the people of Nevada.
