In reply to F. Jay Harrell's July 1 letter regarding the Supreme Court decision on Guantanamo's prisoners:
Again, the far right has it backward. The decision to disallow President Bush's "kangaroo courts" for the alleged terrorists is what America is all about, and what our rule of law stands for.
Lt. Cmdr. Charles Swift, one of the lawyers for the defense, said it best. He stated, "All we wanted was a fair trial ... it means we can't be scared out of who we are."
We are America, not Russia or China. We are not scared of the terrorists. Thank God for justices like John Paul Stevens.
We will win this fight using the rule of law.
