Letter: Let’s ban smoking in all public places
Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006 | 8:21 a.m.
A.J. Maimbourg's Jan. 18 letter is typical of comments made by those who advocate the rights of smokers. Of course, they never allude to the right of nonsmokers to try and breathe some decent air. They just plain don't give a damn.
Now, I don't mind if they want to smoke themselves to cancer and death, but I don't want to go along due to their filthy habit! Smokers are the most nervous people in the world -- one big reason they hang on to those cigarettes.
Then, too, they are some of the biggest slobs. Slot machine trays and areas around the slots are rife with ashes and butts in casinos.
How often does one see smokers dump their car ashtrays in parking lots, too lazy to take them home and dump on their living room floor? If our elected officials in Washington had any backbone, they would pass a law banning smoking in all public places.
Smokers are required by federal law to refrain from smoking on commercial air flights -- why don't they refrain in public places?
