John Katsilometes takes in a taping of ‘The View’ and tracks down Star Jones Reynolds

On Monday morning Star Jones Reynolds told Forum Shops at Caesars General Manager Richard McKeown she wanted to make out with him.

She wasn't serious.

"Excuse me, I need to make out with this man," Jones Reynolds said as McKeown strode up to her platform during a book-signing event near the big marble fountain at the Forum Shops entrance. "He's the GM of my favorite place."

"My wife would not like that," McKeown said afterward. "Neither would her husband."

Jones Reynolds was signing copies of her new book, "Shine," and is in town to tape a week's worth of shows for "The View." Reynolds has fond memories of Las Vegas - especially from 2004, when she came to town shortly after becoming engaged to Al Reynolds.

"He gave me a big ol' rock, and I flew here to do the show the next morning," she said. "By then the whole world knew we were engaged. I don't remember a single thing from that trip."

Reynolds touted the city's restaurants and entertainment, saying, "It used to be a $3.99 all-you-can eat place, but not anymore ... and we've seen all the Cirque du Soleil shows. We love Elton (John), Celine (Dion)."

And the stores.

"Love to shop," she reiterated.

More 'View': Plenty of seats were available on a crisp Monday morning for the first of three tapings, at 8 a.m., in front of Caesars Palace. Three shows were taped Monday, and the remaining two for the week are scheduled for 8 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. today. Those scheduled to appear on the show airing this morning include Chef Wolfgang Puck. Penn & Teller and Carrot Top are set for Thursday, and Dion is on tap Friday ...

To go?: After embarking on some deft reporting this weekend, I found that no one has ever ordered the Flatlander's Special at the Omelet House on Rancho Drive and Charleston Boulevard. Saturday morning a waitress told me, "It's a joke ... but we do have one under lock and key in the kitchen, and if you ever order it, you have to finish it before you leave."

The Flatlander Special, order No. 33 1/2 is: Raw liver, parsnips, peanut butter, organically grown black jelly beans, sauteed grunion lips (2), gardenia petals, topped with mint ice cream (subject to when grunion are running). The cost is $69, and it sounds OK except grunion aficionados will tell you the lips need not be sauteed ...

Spirit of 75: "Hairspray" star Dick Latessa (Wilbur Turnblad) seems to lose 30 years onstage. It's the adrenaline, says the 75-year-old stage and screen vet. "I feed off it," he said at the reception following Wednesday's performance at the Luxor Theatre. "The crowd, the energy. It keeps me young." The 2003 Tony Award winner is largely unrecognizable in these parts; he's been known to walk unnoticed through the Luxor ...

Adding and sprucing: Arizona Charlie's Boulder announced Monday it recently began an $8 million expansion project that will add 7,300 square feet. The project is likely to make this Arizona Charlie's the more, um, upscale of the two Arizona Charlie's.

Oh, that's Kinky: In his current political campaign, country-singing, mystery-writing Texas gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman promises: "I'll never leave the governor's mansion - except to go to Vegas."

Fabulous Las Vegas runs Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday in the Las Vegas Sun. John Katsilometes can be reached at 259-2327 or 812-9812, or at [email protected].
