Letter: Spanish names welcome visitors
Friday, Dec. 1, 2006 | 7:21 a.m.
If I were living in Mexico, unable to speak English but planning a trip north to look for work, and I was looking at a map of the United States wondering where to go, I'd probably feel more comfortable heading to Las Vegas (the meadows) or Los Angeles (the angels) than I would to, say, Pahrump. If we hadn't wanted foreign visitors, we wouldn't have named our town in Spanish. Viva Las Vegas!
