Letter: Sheriff Young right on surveillance
Tuesday, Aug. 29, 2006 | 7:07 a.m.
Sheriff Bill Young has the correct thought regarding the surveillance situation on the Las Vegas Strip. Using the equipment in place from the various hotel/casinos would prove to be a boon to the safety of all concerned.
I worked within the gaming industry, being a former employee of a surveillance department, and I know that we can follow an individual all about the casino property and onto the street and watch and record those actions. A case in point would be to call the local law enforcement agencies if and when it is required. It would assist and, again, be an asset to the community as a whole.
I know that when surveillance cameras are trained and a record is being made of that situation, that is a bona fide record that will stand in any court in the land. I know that I personally would rather have a camera and a recording of anything that would pertain to me, to safeguard myself in all instances, and provide a playback of that instant when it is needed, for any reason. Being that that the honest would be safe and the criminal element could be brought to justice.
Kudos and accolades to Sheriff Young. At least he is using that five letter word that some people have failed to utilize - think.
