FLASHPOINT for Aug 24, 2006

I still find it hard to believe that the Democrats are as confident as they are about wresting Nevada's 2nd Congressional District from the GOP. A Democrat has never held Jim Gibbons' seat since it was created in 1981. There are 50,000 more Republicans than Democrats in the district. But it appears the Republicans continue to take CD2 seriously, just as they do the evenly divided 3rd Congressional District. How do I know? Because Tom Reynolds, the New York congressman who heads the National Republican Congressional Committee, is holding a conference call today with Nevada media types to discuss both races. So he must think both are in play. And who are the Democrats to argue?
