Letter: Bush dropped ball on finding bin Laden
Thursday, Aug. 17, 2006 | 7:34 a.m.
The latest terrorist plot is a stark reminder that this country is still bedeviled by a man willing to put Americans at risk to further his political ends. On the day President Bush abandoned the hunt for Osama bin Laden, sending our troops instead on a war of conquest against an impotent enemy with nonexistent weapons, he betrayed the security of our country for personal political gain.
By letting Bin Laden off the hook, Bush sent a clear message of acquiescence to the rebuilding of al-Qaida. This latest plot is merely the first fruit of Bush's decision.
Let us hope that when America's long nightmare is over in January 2009, we will be inaugurating a president who values the safety and security of Americans more than partisan politics.
