John Katsilometes on Little Steven Van Zandt’s plans for ‘The Sopranos’ and Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band

When the guest is Little Steven Van Zandt, expect a mob scene.

That was the case Thursday morning when the ace guitarist and accomplished thespian joined "Kahuna & Company" on KKLZ 96.3-FM.

During a phone interview Van Zandt told the KKLZ morning crew that the first 12 episodes of the current season of "The Sopranos" - in which he plays the ever-scowling Silvio Dante - have finished filming. Van Zandt begins filming the final episodes for 2007 in June, which seems to indicate that his character will live to see season's end.

The timing for all of this is works well for his music career; he is of course a longtime guitarist for Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band. This year Springteen is embarking on an acoustic folk tour (which is great news for you acoustic folks), but Van Zandt told the crew that Springsteen and the E Street Band would be touring again in 2007.

Van Zandt, who hosts the "Underground Garage" syndicated radio show that airs on KKLZ each Sunday night, said he is constantly asked about plot twists in the highly acclaimed HBO drama. "No one really wants to know" the details, he said, because it is fun to watch the storylines play out each week.

As Van Zandt put it, "It's the 'Goombah American idol.' "

On course: Las Vegas attorney John T. Moran Jr. is a product of a law-enforcement family - his father served three terms as Clark County sheriff from 1982 to 1994. Thus, Moran Jr. has a keen interest in keeping Southern Nevada law enforcement in healthy condition. His most recent law-enforcement effort has been to organize the John and Goldie Moran Golf Classic in Honor of Metro Sergeant Henry Prendes, which is scheduled for May 1 at Canyon Gate Country Club.

Proceeds will go to the Injured Police Officers Fund, and to the Prendes family. Henry Prendes was shot and killed while in the line of duty on Feb. 1. The late John Moran started the fund while he was still serving as sheriff; the tournament is named for him and his wife, the late Goldie Moran.

"Mom and Dad years ago were involved with the fund," Moran said. "Having the golf tournament where the money goes to injured police officers is part of that tradition."

In addition to the more than $100,000 expected to be raised from the tournament, Siegfried and Roy donated $20,000 to the fund and recently presented the check to Sheriff Bill Young. For information about the tournament or the Injured Police Officers Fund, contact Todd Rosenberg at 229-5852 ...
