FLASHPOINT for Apr 18, 2006
Tuesday, April 18, 2006 | 7:15 a.m.
The race for controller is over. Democrat Kim Wallin might as well fold. Republican Steve Martin has captured the most coveted endorsement of all: The chairman of the respected Board of Regents. Yes, Bret Whipple has endorsed Martin, which the candidate announced in a release, wherein Whipple was identified as a "CPA, attorney and a community activist" but whose elected post was not revealed. That sound you hear is of presses stopping and jaws dropping. He is "honored" by this embrace from an "incredible leader," Martin tells us. Yes, of an incredible board. I don't know what else Martin can hope for. You know the old Nevada political saying: Once you have Whipple, your opponent's a cripple.
