StumbleLetter: Pilgrims were not illegal immigrants

In his April 12 letter to the editor, Randy Bolton made the claim that "One point that everyone is ignoring in their thinking about illegal immigrants: The Mayflower was a boatload of illegal immigrants!"
My question is: How could that be? There was no law regarding immigration or even a country in 1620, hence they were not illegal immigrants.
