LV woman hit by pickup, has leg amputated

A Las Vegas woman who had been trying to help push a disabled car along Boulder Highway was struck from behind by a pickup truck early this morning, and she was so severely injured that one of her legs had to be amputated, Metro Police said.

Anissa Kenney, 33, was a passenger in a 1976 Mercury Cougar that was northbound on Boulder Highway south of Glen Avenue about 12:50 a.m. when the car apparently ran out of gas and stopped on the busy thoroughfare, police said.

When Kenney and driver of the Cougar, 35-year-old William Grant, got out of the car to push it, 70-year-old Nicholas Tillinger drove into her in his 1992 Ford pickup.

Neither Tillinger nor Grant were injured in the crash, officers said. Kenney was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition with broken bones, police said. By 9:30 a.m., one of her legs had been amputated, Detective Dennis Magill of Metro's traffic investigation section said.

Tillinger had not been cited in the crash as of this morning, but the investigation was ongoing, Magill said.
