Fire restrictions lifted in parts of Spring Mountains

As cooler autumn weather arrives, the federal agencies managing the Spring Mountains west of Las Vegas lifted extreme fire restrictions some parts of the area.

The Bureau of Land Management, the Nevada Division of Forestry, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the U.S. Forest Service eased restrictions on Friday.

However, fire restrictions for the Spring Mountain National Recreation Area are still in effect until Nov. 15. Those restrictions include no campfires within one mile of homes in Kyle and Lee canyons, Deer Creek, Cold Creek and the communities of Trout Canyon and Mountain Springs.

These areas have signs advising the public of the restrictions.

"Fire danger is no longer extreme, but there is still an abundance of dry brush and trees," said Dewey Warner, Forest Service fire management officer.

"People are encouraged to enjoy their public lands, but to do so responsibly," Warner said.

For more information the public is encouraged to call (702) 515-5000.

Meanwhile, the National Park Service lifted fire restrictions in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area.
