Letter: Hypocritical lack of respect for life on display
Wednesday, Sept. 7, 2005 | 8:58 a.m.
It was very puzzling to me that a president who won his election on the premise of putting such a high priority on life that he doesn't condone abortion or even the distribution of birth-control products, can allow babies and people of all ages to die because he wouldn't get the basics of life-sustaining water and baby formula to the people in dire need after Katrina hit.
If he and the Christian Coalition believe life is so precious, where were all these people during this crisis? They sure don't practice what they preach.
Bush didn't even go to the downtown New Orleans area to experience firsthand what the survivors had been going through. He hugged and spoke with the people in Mississippi, but he didn't go near the people in New Orleans waiting in lines for buses that never showed up for days on end. Instead, he did a photo shoot near the levee and at the airport.
