Letter: Pharmacists would be violating own code

I took the liberty of looking into the Code of Ethics of the American Pharmacists Association to see if these pharmacists would be violating their own standards of practice. In doing so, I found at least three statements that would clearly be violated by such actions. They are:

"... a pharmacist promises to help individuals to achieve optimum benefit from their medications, to be committed to their welfare and to maintain their trust."

"A pharmacist promotes the right of self-determination and recognizes individual self-worth by encouraging patients to participate in decisions about their health."

"... a pharmacist respects personal and cultural differences among patients."
