After all the gains from the Endangered Species Act, it is a supreme disappointment that Rep. Richard Pombo of California has proposed a harmful bill that will gut it.
After a 99 percent success rate, which included saving the bald eagle and the grizzly bear, it would be a shame to see a reversal. We need to preserve our natural heritage for generations to come instead of pandering to the interests of polluters and developers for short-term gain. I applaud Rep. Shelley Berkley, D-Nev., for voting against this harmful measure.
