Las Vegas presents the movie "Shrek 2" at 8:30 p.m. today at the Becker Community School, 9110 Hillpointe Road. Bring chairs or blankets. No concessions. 229-2482.
Barn dance
The Southern Nevada Old-Time Contra Dancers present an "Old Time Barn Dance" from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Charleston Heights Arts Center ballroom, 800 S. Brush St. Admission is $6 adults, $5 members, $3 students and active military, free for children under 15. 229-6383.
Donut dining
Las Vegas invites the community to celebrate National Donut Day with donuts, juice and an old-fashioned movie from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Stupak Community Center, 300 W. Boston Ave. Admission is free. 229-2488.
Free movie
Las Vegas' Cultural Affairs Division holds a free screening of "Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow" at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Estelle Neal Park at Rebecca Road and Tropical Parkway. 229-4614.
Book signing
Author Jarret Keene will sign copies of his book, "The Underground Guide to Las Vegas," at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road. 507-3400.
Poetry reading

The Las Vegas-Clark County Library District presents the following films as part of its film series this month. Admission is free:
Clark County Library, 1401 E. Flamingo Road -- "The Thin Man Goes Home," 1 p.m. Tuesday; "The Saddest Music in the World" (Rated R), 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Sahara West Library, 9600 W. Sahara Ave. -- "IMAX -- Galapagos," 7 p.m. Wednesday.
Heritage Month
The following events are planned at area libraries as part the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District's celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month. All events are free:
11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday -- Island Fest, a family event celebrating crafts, games and food from the Pacific Islands, Las Vegas Library, 833 Las Vegas Blvd. North.
Centennial events
The POST Modern, 301 Stewart Ave., will host the following events to celebrate Las Vegas' centennial this week. All events are free. 229-4631:
10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. today, Monday and Tuesday -- Tours of the POST Modern, formerly the downtown post office.
