Harrah’s, Sands: Government not over-managing casino bids

Las Vegas Sands Corp. and Harrah's Entertainment Inc. said the Singapore government is not over-managing the handling of bids for two casino-resorts in the city, the Business Times said, citing executives from the companies.

The companies were responding to remarks reported by Singapore's Sunday Times on May 15 from Wynn Resorts Ltd. Chairman Steve Wynn who said officials managing the bidding process for two planned casino resorts were exerting too much direction and control over design requirements.

The rival bidders said it was understandable the government wants to be involved, the newspaper said. Las Vegas Sands President and Chief Operating Officer William Weidner said the government's involvement helped improve the company's designs, the report said.

Harrah's Senior Vice President of Development Richard Mirman said the company was "very comfortable interacting with the local rules and regulations," the Business Times reported.
