Regents honors announced

The university Board of Regents announced the names of UNLV faculty and students who have received Regents Awards for the 2004-2005 academic year.

Douglas Unger, professor of English and director of the Master of Fine Arts Creative Writing Program, received the Regents' Creative Activity Award, which carries a $5,000 stipend and a medal. The award recognizes significant accomplishments the bring recognition to the University and Community College System of Nevada.

Larry Ashley and Barbara Brents received Regents' Academic Advisor Awards, which carry $5,000 stipends in recognition of their efforts.

Ashley, assistant professor of counseling, served as the undergraduate coordinator for the department of marriage, family, and community counseling. Brents, associate professor of sociology, has been active in undergraduate and graduate student advising at UNLV since 1988, serving as graduate coordinator from 1998-2002.

Two UNLV students, undergraduate Tondra De and graduate student AmiJo Comeford, received Regents Scholar Awards. Both graduates will receive a $5,000 stipend for their academic accomplishments, on-and-off campus leadership contributions, and their potential for continued success.

Eagle Scouts are selected

These young men recently earned the distinction of Eagle Scout from the Boulder Dam Area Council of the Boy Scouts of America:

Boggs McDonald to head foundation

Keep Memory Alive founder Larry Ruvo announced that Clark County Commissioner Lynette Boggs McDonald will become the first president of the foundation, an orgnanization created to help identify the cause and develop acure for Alzheimer's disease.

Boggs McDonald will serve to broaden the awareness of Keep Memory Alive, and to head-up development for the Lou Ruvo Alzheimer's Center.

The facility will be designed by architect Frank Gehry, known for such work as the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angele and the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Spain.

National Association of Industrial Office Properties

is asking for assistance with the summer food and clothing drive. The Community Clothing Closet needs both boys and girls clothing, new or gently used, for ages 5-12. Bring your donations to the NAIOP breakfast 7 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. June 9 at the Stardust. Call 365-2055.
