The Boston Red Sox activated left-hander David Wells from the disabled list Wednesday to start the series finale against the Athletics.
Wells, sidelined since April 26 with a sprained right foot, made his sixth start of the season.
Boston optioned right-hander Cla Meredith to Triple-A Pawtucket after Tuesday night's game to make room for Wells, who pitched in place of right-hander Jeremi Gonzalez.
Crisp was injured in the first inning of Tuesday night's win against the Los Angeles Angels when he slid into third base attempting to stretch a double into a triple. He remained in the game but left after the sixth inning.
Crisp has scored a team-high 24 runs while hitting .283, with three home runs and 11 runs batted in.
Tigers manager Alan Trammell said that Guillen, second in the American League with a .376 batting average, will probably not play in Thursday afternoon's series finale. He hopes to have Guillen back Friday against Arizona.
Guillen underwent knee surgery in late September after tearing his right ACL on Sept. 11.
Beltre, who signed a $64 million, five-year contract last winter, left Tuesday's game after five innings. He limped to first base while running out a groundball in the fourth, then struggled to field a dribbler in the fifth by Gary Sheffield.
